Dr. X, my physician client, was frustrated by his inability to call patients who had not been in to see him for awhile. He felt a stigma of shame that his patient might think he was after their money rather than interested in their health and well-being. His practice was not growing and he felt he could improve things by breaking through his blocks around patient follow-up calls.

In working with him we identified the following related issues:
  • reluctance to ask for something
  • fear of fitting into the "greedy physician stereotype"

These issues seemed rather obvious, but I asked his body what was the deeper cause of his reluctance, and what came up was that his mother had not wanted him at the time she became pregnant. The subconscious shame, discord about feeling that he hurt his mother, emotion about feeling like a burden who wasted his mother's  time and energy, and other deep issues all seemed related to his reluctance to call patients to invite them to come back into his practice.

In a tapping sequence we used standard EFT points with a focus of specific emotions* held in each meridian. Deep sobs showed that the energy was shifting. He tapped each point until the emotional charge cleared.

Following this clearing he obtained the names of two patients and called them from my office - with good results. He felt calm and enjoyed having already started crossing names off of his long list.

His goal this week is to call at least 15 more patients, and he knows that if he feels anxious he can tap the heart chakra/ thymus combined point, the karate chop point, or top of the head to ease his stress.
