“If we plant a seed in the ground we know that the sun will shine and the rain will water, and we leave it to the Law [universal order] to bring results…Well, the desire you image is the seed, your occasional closing of the eyes in imagery is the sun, and your constant, though not anxious, expectation is the rain and cultivation necessary to bring absolutely sure results. ~Francis Larimer Warner, Our Invisible Supply: Part One, 1907

Have you seen the quote before that says something like, “if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re likely to get there?” We can get so focused on clearing what isn’t working that what we’re clearing becomes the focus. How long will this relationship pattern last, we may wonder, or cycle of anger or depression, or not enough money or low confidence or whatever the pattern may be—a circuitous and frustrating pattern indeed, if we don’t have an intention to clarify our direction.

Even just the thought, it can be another way, can raise our vibration, our state of mind and feeling, from discouragement, impatience or disorientation to a sense of neutrality, hope or possibility. Add to that an intention—purposeful focus—on a direction or end goal and you have an energy that will support you in moving forward.

In a Surrogate Healing workshop I teach, besides tapping, we practiced with the idea of using only intent, both negative and positive, to experience its effect of injury or healing on classmates, whether we were “sending” it or just thinking it. It was remarkable to recognize the power we have and its immediate effect on both the giver and the receiver according to simply intention.

Our intentions for our lives are equally powerful. More than a goal, intention is also a recognition of our power as individual creators. Intentions help us take responsibility for our current life experience, along with its effects on ourselves and others, and accept the power and worthiness to create something different.

The transformation of ourselves in this process can catch us off guard. Einstein spelled it out when he said you cannot solve a problem from the same consciousness (or state of mind) that created it. In order to get from where you are to where you want to be, you must be changed and that can be an interesting mixture of discomfort, joy, down right pain and exhilaration.

Here are a few important principles to understand for intentions to be effective:

First, the Universe conspires tirelessly in your favor. Read that again, say it out loud and put it in the first person. This is a biggie. It taps into our worthiness stuff and whether or not we deserve such unlimited goodness. “What? You mean I can have THAT?!” The Universe conspires tirelessly in “their” favor as well. There are no favorites. It just depends on our willingness, ability and diligence to align with that Power and Greater Wisdom and draw it in with our desire, intention, vibration, congruence and gratitude.

Second, let your intention breathe. Yes, clear your doubt and foster confidence with EFT, then release the stranglehold of desperation, control and have to’s around your intention. Hold it lightly and remind yourself of principle number one. You are not alone! What you are intending can take place in any number of ways, wonderful ways of which your conscious mind could not conceive. Remember to couple your intention with the caveat, “this or something better,” releasing it like a dandelion gone to seed that you blow into the wind and opening yourself to the many ways your desire could return to you.

Third, consider whether your intention is truly in alignment with your essence, who you are and who you intend to become. For example, if your intention is to become a best-selling author, but you don’t enjoy writing, you will experience increasing frustration with the dissonance and the fact that it’s not arriving. Here’s another more subtle example, if you would like a substantial income (pick your number $80K, $250K, $1mil, etc.), but how you plan to use it is for things and purposes you find unimportant—mansions, fancy cars, rare art, scholarships, world travel—you will experience the same incongruence and frustration.

However, if you intend that same income, using EFT for all the doubts, and you imagine using it for something you love and consider worthy of your attention—raising horses, providing scholarships, purchasing the ’65 convertible Mustang, hiking vacations with your spouse/significant other, purchasing your favorite grand piano, being free of debt and having a fun and meaningful retirement, supporting your parents in retirement with ease—you will discover the internal and external alignment speeds up the process of attraction.

Finally, feel abundant now. What does that relationship look like and feel like when it’s healthy, resolved, exhilarating and deeply fulfilling and meaningful? Feel it now. Not with anxiousness, but with expectation, recognizing the transformation that must take place to move from here to there. What does your work feel like, your healthy body, your sense of confidence, your desired income? Feel it now.

It can be another way. You really are only an intention away.
