Good Morning, this is my first blog ( still havent figure out what a blog acutally is) but such as it is..here I go.........
I began using EFT approximately a year ago, unfaithfully I might add. I love it but am not sure why I wasnt using in consistantly......I thought it would be something worthy of using in my position as a Drug / Alcohol counselor due to the plethora of types of addictions and personalities I come across daily, this seems to be the one consistant thing that might aid in symptom relief of my clients being in residential treatment. The first "class" was excited, I had 17 clients in group that evening. Earlier in the day I asked them to bring pillows to the session. Upon arrival we began moving tables and chairs to make room for spreading out and getting comfortable. I had previous taught theroies behind EFT and Energy Psychology as well as giving them a basic rundown of the shortcut version. Lots of giggles and grunts echoed in the initial teaching session, but excitement filled the air that evening.
As this activity was going on, I heard once client says she would go get the aspirin, I looked to see that it was a client who was on crutches. I asked why she was getting aspirin and she pointed at another male client ( I will call GS ). GS was experiencing an uncontrollable shaking in his right arm with pain. He appeared very scared. I directed another client to retreive the aspirin and told the client on crutches to say put.
I walked over to GS and inquired as to his symptoms. He had taken off his jacket and this is when the pain and shaking began. Some years prior he had shoulder surgery and said he occassionaly experiences this in his arm. I eased him into a sitting position on the floor. This was his second group session and very new to the treatment program there for he had yet to bond with any one and didnt know me very well either. I asked GS if I could do a technqiue on him that I believed would give him relief and expalined I would have to touch his face, hands, collar bone and head. He agreed and I began the setup.( mind you this is all happening in seconds)
We began the tapping......"Even though I have this pain .. I deeply and completley love and accept my self... this pain in my shoulder, this pain in my arm, this shaking, this fear , this anxiousness"........ Nothing fancy was said, we just concentrated on the immediate issue. By the time the client returned with the aspirin, GS had an intensity rating from 10 down to 6 and the shaking had stopped. I assisted him in taking the aspirin and we did another 4 rounds of tapping saying the same statements...by the end, his intensity went down to a 2. I believed this was enough for the moment and we began the "relaxation session" as I had termed it for purposes of the company policies. At the end of the hour group session, GS had complete relief and was able to move his arm and shoulder about with NO symptons. The group had high energy and were all excited about the session, leaving for the evening with high energy, conhesiveness and bonding began with smiles. ( I might add I had barely seen any of them smile that week)............
I was thrilled, my energy was sky high, I had excitement, I was pleased that this seemed to be a "breakthrough" with most of the clients. Mind you there were still those who grunted about the session but even with the grunts and the resistance, they all participated...a few days later 2 of the grunting clients admitted they were actually using EFT right before they fell asleep and it was helping them to rest during the night !!!!!
I have tapped on 4 of my co-workers for acute anger, frustration and tension with great success. Now in conversation or passing I can read their faces, seeing the stress and tension so I say "you looked stressed, lets tap"
I expected some teasing and ridicule as word got out around the facility about "Carols tapping" but there has been nothing but positive feedback and requests for my services!! ..........We have a variety of people on center to include veterans, federal and municipal detainees as well as our treatment clients and community sentencing detainees. Unfortunately I am only permitted to work with the treatment clients but alot of detainees ask about my "Relaxation Techniques."
Until we meet again...Happy Tappping !
